Welcome to the gorgeous Star card. This is my all time favourite card of the tarot deck. The energetic hit of this card is like a hug made of starry hands. It's always a pleasure to see her pop up in a reading and for me has a softening and graceful influence on all surrounding cards. It's the kind of energy that tucks you in, replenishes the heart, aids recovery of wounds, and leaves you to have the sleep of a lifetime. Before you know it, your waking up to a refreshing new dawn, with the spiritual equivalent of breakfast in bed.

To pull the Star is to receive a gift of renewal. After the shock and trauma of the Tower, the Star is a welcome sight. It often indicates things have been tough but healing is underway. The Star is the dawn that can only be truly appreciated by the darkest nights of the soul. If we cry under the influence of this card, it will be truly cathartic - heralding a much needed release of emotion. As we let go of past harm or hurtful influences, we see ourselves lightening up, hopeful of rejuvenation and fertile ground ahead. The Star is not just a healer, but the ultimate survivor of the tarot. She doesn't just survive, she thrives and endures. If health has been an issue, she's a most welcome sight in the deck.

This card is compassionate but is also powerful and imbued with sacred and ancient depth. I associate it with Sirius, brightest star in the heavens. Sirius was not just a star to the Egyptians, but the Goddess of the Heavens herself - Isis. Tarot and Egypt have a long standing visual and symbolic relationship, and Sirius was of undeniable significance. To the Egyptians it was the basis of their calendar and the foundation of their entire religious system. So pretty damn important to the ancestors. The luminocity of Sirius is also indicative of another meaning of this card - that of visibility or fame. The Star stands out without needing to try - the light she embodies is clear to all who see her.

 

The appearance of Sirius at dawn is known as the Heliacal rising and indicated that the Nile delta was about to flood and the waters would fertilise the lands once again. This sight was so welcome, many countries held celebrations in honour of her appearance. She marked a change in weather that many along the equator celebrated. The Hindu texts describe Sirius as a 'rain god' and the traditional depiction of this tarot card is a beautiful woman pouring water into a pool. The card is also associated with Aquarius, the water-bearer. In older mythologies Aquarius was depicted like Poseidon, as part-fish.

Water is life. Water is the ultimate healer, and the very reason for our existence. It is the basis of self-care and an absolute necessity. Bathe, cleanse, purge, drink, swim, float and heal. All these are messages of the Star card.

Just as the Star is visible, constant and guiding, so she offers these qualities to you. Recognise them within yourself and see how you truly shine. We must start with the inner glow before we can bring light into the world. So take time to replenish hope and nurture your own elevation. Go and watch Stardust :) Rest. Have a massage. Have a ritual bath. Practice the Hof technique. Admire the water on the landscape - send it some love. Be mindful to drink more a offer a blessing to the liquid that gives life to you. Wash those crystals and wash your aura. Gaze at the night sky and see all that distant life. Sleep, meditate and dream. You deserve a time out. The wind has changed and the breeze is at your back.

I once meditated in the dark while looking at Sirius. I could see her out of a skylight window. When I closed my eyes, I could still see her. The light seemed to get brighter - blue and silvery. I felt an energy like water and light combined. Mostly, I felt a love radiating from that star that felt graceful and tender; familiar and brand new all at once. It was incredible. I'll never look at the night sky the same again and when I see Sirius shining on a clear night, I remember that moment. Sometimes the telephone of consciousness is answered directly, and it always feels like a game changer.

 

So, twinkle your shine and remember always the famous words of our Disney overlords (who know plenty about esoterics) -  "when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true".
